Sectional Champs

Sectional+Champs

This past Sunday, February 23, the boys and girls track team entered John Bennett Indoor Sports Complex and killed it. Both teams were able to bring it back home to Audubon as Sectional Champions. This week I decided to get a recap on how the meet went for the boys and girls. Coach Coz and Coach Ireland came up with great responses to all of my questions in order for all of us to get the inside scoop.

According to both coaches, the excitement and how focused the teams were stood out the most to everyone. As soon as the teams arrived they were amped up and determined to win.

Gregoire cleared a height in pole vault then JT, Tyler, and Brandon followed up to win a very high score in the 400. The excitement was “contagious” and excelled through the rest of the team as the meet went on. According to Coach Coz, the entire meet was different for the boys compared to the girls. “They’ve never been in a position to win the meet and they went out and dominated it with a 34 point victory.” Sarah Parr doubled out and became a two time sectional champ while JT won the 400 and Aden won the High Jump. Apparently the girls knew a win would be possible but it would be tough. With some ups and downs the girls were also able to come out on top. “They didn’t lose focus”, said Coz “…and I’m so proud they were able to finish the job.”

Both Ireland and Cosenza put their hair on the line for this meet and came out with a shaved face and bald head. States are looking pretty interesting but both coaches are confident in their athletes. Coach Ireland stated their goal is to move as many people on to Meet of the Champs and they’re ready to compete.
