Are you a firm believer for standing up for what you believe in? Do you also happen to conveniently have creative talent? Well, you’re in luck! A junior at AHS, Anjelina Wilkinson, has opened an art contest to all students in the school for her anti-bullying campaign, StandUp. If you’re unaware of what this campaign truly is, then look no further. After an interview with her, Anjelina says that the meaning of StandUp is open for interpretation. “Don’t hide, stand up for what you believe in,” she tells me. “Don’t be a bystander!” Be aware of the things we say or do to people. Think before you speak, StandUp for what you believe is right, and make a change. Last year, when school shootings began to increase in amount, Anjelina was deeply affected by these events and realized that most of it stemmed from bullying, so she decided there needs to be a change in how we treat others. That’s why, to properly convey her message, Anjelina is looking for unique and personal pieces of art, preferably drawn on paper, depicting the name of the campaign with your own creative touch. Her advice is to, “think out of the box,” and let your artistic talent shine through the paper. The deadline for this contest is December 14th, turned in to Mrs. Scotto in A122.
