In the fictional manga series and anime Fullmetal Alchemist, Alphonse and Edward Elric are two young brothers living in the fictional country of Amestris. At a young age, they are granted the gift of the gods; alchemy – the ability to transform any mass of matter into anything if that object of choice has the same abundance of elements. The boys, now at the age of 5 and 6, are faced with the death of their mother. Trying to use their novice alchemist skills, the boys try to pay the price of life and bring their mother back only for it to sadly fail. After Alphonse’s and Edward’s failure they both find themselves completely changed for life. Alphonse’s right arm and left leg are missing and Edward’s entire body are disappearing, so they suit their unusable body parts with prosthetic casing. While on their epic journey to search for the Philosopher’s stone to heal their bodies, they encounter plenty of obstacles, like conflicts with kings, experienced alchemists, and false prophets as they continue to grow their influence throughout the country known as the Amestris.

Fullmetal Alchemist is only 51 episodes, complete with an English dub and English sub. Fullmetal Alchemist, sadly being an incomplete manga series, is also an incomplete anime series, however there is a follow up series titled Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood where they continue to find the philosopher’s stone to restore their bodies. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood stars  a new antagonist who crosses their path on their way to find the Philosopher’s Stone.

Both series are uploaded on Netflix or Kissanime.com. I would still recommend to a friend, considering character development is evident throughout the story, antagonists are positive threats, and the conflict/plot is intriguing and original.
