Trippie Redd, a Canton, Ohio resident turned into an overnight sensation after releasing his first mixtape “A Love Letter to You” featuring artist like 6ix9ine, XXXtentacion, Famous Dex and Lil tracy and was able to have producer Pi’erre Bourne create a beat for his featured song with 6ix9ine: “Poles 1469.” The mixtape peaked at #64 on Billboard Hot 100 and #32 on Top R&B/ Hip Hop Albums, The mixtape also recently achieved certified gold status on June 20, 2019 by (RIAA), meaning Trippie was able to sell 500,000 units.

Trippie was able to grasp the attention of millions in a short amount of time and I think it’s influenced by his exotic personality; he seems to be interestingly made up of polar opposites: Either a soft lover or a hard hoodlum. However, he has received plenty of backlash in the past for his unpopular opinions and lifestyle, which would deter many previous fans. Trippie’s young immature ruthless personality is what made me intrigued by his music and his social media persona. He has a unique voice and sound, he knows how to use it and experiment between the two, and this makes him more of an artist in my eyes. However, Trippie has released 3 other love letters in the past 3 years and has continuously degraded in value, I feel like old Trippie Redd was a much better artist before his new sound, appearance and attitude. 2016-era Trippie Redd will forever have a place in my heart.
